PARK: 3D
Working with 3D software and spatial thinking offers plenty of small nooks and tight corners to hide in from the many trappings of this medium. The tool is beleaguered by a visual specificity, one point perspective and a popular culture black-hole of 3D animations by the likes of Pixar. But unlike the steadfast mantra of a movie studio such as Pixar that says that the story is everything, I think the real space for an individual is to work with abstraction and experimentation using this powerful tool.
Here are some examples:
Matchmoving - a technique of melding video and 3D movement.
Abstract Animation: “Animula”
‘Vent’ – one of four animations created as a part of a collaborative four-piece dance concert called AGNI.
‘Microlux’ - a one minute movement exploring the iterative patterns of arrays.
